Shannon Scott’s songs wind their way through form and sound in unpredictable ways ... she invariably sings with her heart on her sleeve.

SHANNON SCOTT is a vocalist/pianist from Red Deer, Alberta. She graduated in 2006 from Capilano University’s Bachelor of Jazz Performance program, and has since been an active musician in Vancouver's music scene. With a diverse musical background, Shannon has recorded, performed and toured with projects that range from her original alt-jazz project, to a vintage vocal harmony group (Company B Jazz Band), to collaborative work with interdisciplinary composer Barbara Adler and vocal arrangements with Canadian spoken word icon CR Avery. In her collaborative work with CR Avery, Shannon has had the privilege of performing at the esteemed Vancouver Folk Music Festival (2013, 2016) as well as the Calgary Folk Music Festival (2013).

Shannon’s current project showcases her original compositions: her songs weave dense harmonies and asymmetrical rhythms with natural, fluid melodies; her lyrics wind from metaphorical to confessional; abstraction is made relatable. This band was nominated for both the 2007 and 2009 Galaxie Rising Star award, and in 2009 she released her first full-length album. With this project, Shannon has performed nearly every year in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival from 2007 to present.

COMPANY B JAZZ BAND is one of Vancouver’s foremost jazz ensembles, delivering a dynamic performance that sends anyone within earshot straight back to the dance halls of the Swing Era and Roaring '20s speakeasies. Featuring a harmonizing female vocal trio, the band's creative arrangements, sharp image, and charming wit never fail to get toes tapping and faces smiling.

The band members first met as students at Capilano University’s renowned Jazz Studies program in Vancouver, BC. The friends tossed around the idea of putting together an Andrews Sisters tribute band, and in 2007, the band took wings as Company B. From the moment they performed their first show, the group’s popularity took off; the band became the darlings of Vancouver’s well-established swing dance scene, and they made their international debut at the Sacramento Jazz Festival in 2009. They have since performed numerous times in Western Canadian music festivals, including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival, ArtsWells Festival (2019), Tiny Lights Festival (2014 - 2017), and Arts on the Fly (2013, 2018). As mentioned above, the band has extensively toured internationally: they were the representatives of Canadian women in jazz at the Jaipur Jazz & Blues Festival prelude events, have twice been the sole Canadian band at the Joy in Jiangsu Jazz & World Music Festival, and have toured Europe on numerous occasions.

Company B Jazz Band has released 6 albums, with a repertoire that has expanded to include transcriptions of numerous other vocal harmony groups from the ‘20s - ‘50s, original arrangements of contemporary music, and original compositions. The vocalists have also collaborated and recorded with numerous other artists’ musical endeavours.
